Sunday Morning Services SUSPENDED
Hi Church Family
In light of the Prime Minister’s announcement today that indoor meetings of people over 100 should be avoided, Mackay Baptist Church has made the difficult decision to make a SUSPEND our regular Sunday morning services until further notice. This includes Sunday School and Yo Yos.
In place of this Sunday’s service, we will instead be video streaming a slimmed-down version of the Sunday service commencing this Sunday at the normal time of 9:00am. At the very least, Ps. Scott will present the message from 1 Peter, but we hope to also be able to stream a time of worship. You will be able to find this at the following site: https://www.facebook.com/mackaybaptist/ Note that you do not need a Facebook account to view this video.
During this next few weeks and months, small groups and home groups are of critical importance. We are asking all home group leaders if they would be willing to “host” their usual groups at their usual meeting place at the same time on Sunday morning. We would ask these groups to then join the live video stream and to participate together as a group as best you can.
For current home / small group leaders can you please advise the church office as soon as possible if you are able to host your usual small group for this coming Sunday? We will then communicate with you separately.
If you are not in a regular small / home group, we think now would be a great time to start! Let the church office know and we will try to connect you into a group. Also, if you would be willing to host a group at your house (or somewhere else) for Sunday mornings. All you need is a room with some chairs and maybe a smart TV. Let us know as soon as you can!
Now, most other church activities and ministries will remain unchanged. The following are still happening:
- Home Groups and Bible Studies
- Tuesday afternoon prayer
- Counselling (Mackay Baptist Care)
- Ladies Retreat (This Weekend)
- Men’s Retreat (Next Weekend)
However, until further notice, for the same reasons, Friday Youth Group is also SUSPENDED.
This is an challenging time for us as Mackay Baptist Church, as well as God’s Universal Church worldwide to continue to be “light” in our community and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Please be patient as we figure out the best way to stay in contact with you – for anything, please call the office or send the office an email. We will try to keep the same information flowing between email and Facebook.
If you have been reading through 1 Peter as part of our current teaching series, you will have found that amazingly relevant passage from 1 Peter 2:13 regarding submitting to Earthly authority. Trust in God that he has given Australia wise leaders and advisors to help the nation through the next few months. The best advice on how to respond and contain the spread of COVID19 will come from our Government.
Please be in prayer for your Church leaders, our Government and all authorities during this time. Take this opportunity to cross the street and talk to a neighbour, a co-worker, a friend and a family member about how they are going. Many are fearful: that is obvious by the public reaction to hoard food and essential items. Recognize that the fear is not just for the virus itself, but the fear of workplaces shut down leading to unemployment. God is working in the midst of this event – and God wants each of His children (you and I) to demonstration his love to a nation that is fearful.
Steve – on behalf of Ps. Scott and the Elders.
